I have a little to say on the subject. Last spring I ordered a bimini from
International Marine for around $400.00. They sent it to me in two pieces,
the hardware came directly from west marine. The software (canvas) came from
The folks who make the Potter sails.
I got no instuctions on how to mount it. I looked at some pictures of
Potters with Biminis and thought about my need to be shaded. Like Solar fry
I have become concerened with over exposure to the sun.
So I mounted the bimini at position 1 as illustrated in this wonderful
drawing of a potter's rear end.:

I found that in this position the bimini blocked vison forward and
interfered with movement of the boom. This fall I took to sailing with out
the bimini. Further more I found that it didn't provide any shade in the
late evening whe the sun is still fierce here in Texas.
Recently I raised the mast and hung the bimini from the boom using bungi
cords. It hung so that the mounting hardware rested at position 2 in the
above drawing. This
appears to not interfere with boom movement. I've only done testing while on
the trailer.
