The website says:

"the Lake Carriers Association's contention [is] that her foundering was
caused by flooding through bottom and ballast tank damage resulting from
bottoming on the Six Fathom Shoal between Caribou and Michipicoten Islands."

That's the theory I was referring to. Sorry I mangled the details (It was
Lake Superior, duh!). As I now I remember the version I read
once-upon-a-time, she supposedly tore her bottom while in waves on the
shoal, and sank later, according to the theory. there are obviously several
other thoeories. I like that one better than plain ole leaky hatches.

Glad to hear that I haven't lost *all* my marbles yet ;^)
