You may recall I started my post with the following:

"Maybe I'm missing something here. Please forgive me if I am."

I have already apologized in advance. However, it appears that I should do
so again and I shall: My sincere apologies to Susan.

As for "quasi-apologies" when I am wrong, that is the way I try to make
amends for making egregious errors. I have had to apologize many times in my
life for being wrong. At least I'm not too pigheaded to admit I'm wrong or
to apologize.

You're right. I did completely miss the point. I entitled my post
"Changing Boat name and --- homophobia?!? HUH? "

I quote myself : "I simply do not get the connection between naming a boat
and homophobia or narcissm -- and I
completely fail to find any humor in the connecton between between
homophobia, narcissism and boat naming..

I even looked up the name Erin in my literary reference books and of course,
didn't find anything. I didn't get the obvious -- that Erin is a girl's
name.

Apparently, a few other people misunderstood Susan's joke too. Until your
post, those of us who missed the point were completely in the dark as to
what she was talking about.

My "unsolicited, pointificating sermon" was indeed misdirected at Susan. Her
only mistake was being vague and a lack of carefulness in how she worded a
potentially touchy joke.

In my own defense, I will say that my motivation was genuine and sincere. I
attempted to give Susan the benefit of the doubt right at the onset. Will
you give me the benefit of the doubt as well?

Sincerely, Judy B
