I have not paid much attention to this topic, so if I am repeating a point
already made, please excuse me. The catalog Layline, 1401Capital Blvd,
Raleign, NC 27603 sells compasses and matching mast-mounting brackets.
These are designed for dingys, and they are quite expensive. However, the
brackets ought to be easy to fabricate to fit most any mounted compass.
The simpler ones have a bracket held on by screws run into a slug or slugs
in the mast slot. The brackets are metal, but some type of wooden box-like
bracket fastened to the mast slot via screws and sail-slug of some type
should work.
