Actually, lexan is an excellent material for cabin windows. It is light,
very strong and resistant to impact, and long-lasting. It's also easy to
work.
Two chief drawbacks are that it is easily scratched, and over a long period
of time, exposure to UV will degrade the material, leading to
discoloration, brittleness and crazing. But then .. most anything left out
in the sun year after year will discolor, fade, and weaken, including yer
uncovered skull <!>
Given the choice between lexan, glass, or no windows at all, the choice is
quite easily made ....
The best defense for the lexan windows (and the fiberglass boat attached to
them) is wax. A good quality auto wax will provide UV screening, a degree
of scratch protection, and will make removing dirt and grime very much
easier.
