[WWP] Heavy Centerboard on P15

All -

Has anyone tried using a 3/8" or 1/2" plate for a centerboard on a
P15?

It seems that the additional weight that low would provide more
stability under all conditions (at the cost of some speed), and the
trunk looks wide enough to accommodate it.
We could trace the existing centerboard on cardboard and have a steel
shop fabricate one -- possibly of stainless (big bucks?), but at least
galvanized.

Concerns are whether the trunk is really wide enough (could model w/
1/2" plywood), but primarily whether the existing cb-raising tackle
and trunk pin would support more weight.

We could improve the ratio on the tackle to accommodate more weight,
but its fastening to the cabin floor by the foot of the compression
post and the stresses that the rig would put on the trunk and keelson
are possible problem areas.

We would welcome comments on any history of such modifications or the
practical issues involved.
