Mike,
Why replace? With a little elbow grease you can make it look absolutely
beautiful. I had a 30 year old Westerly (you can imagine what the original
teak looked like)that I tackled one winter. Got myself a nice Ryobi
triangle sander to get into the tight places... start with a heavy grit and
work down. Hose down and wipe with cheese cloth... then lay on your first
coat of varnish... the thinner the better. 11 coats later... that teak was
a beautiful golden brown with a sheen that would take your breath away. But
then again, I love woodworking. Teak also looks great to me when it's gray,
weathered and grainy. My agenda now has sailing time at the top of the
list... not restoring an old boat. Been there - done that.

Rick

I wanted to ask whether anyone had ever replaced, teak with any other wood ,
the reason for wanting to do so are not that important, just wondering, just

read in another site that it should never be done, I have found from reading

here that potterers are not afraid to experiment, thanks for the input MIke
