I see no response to your query. So here is a short reply.
The drain hole on cockpit floor will not allow water in until you place more
than three adults there. With fourth adult a little water may come in but not
enought to be concerned about. However, you may buy a small drain plug at any
marine store and plug hole from outside of stern if you are concerned. The
second hole down from drain hole in transom should be plugged before
launching at it is a hull drain hole to let water out (or in if not plugged)
from inside boat. Otherwise... GLUG GLUG!
If yours is a new boat cranking keel up a bit will allow release of bolts.
You should lower keel before you raise (install) any sails on boat. If you
raise sails with keel up you may find boat will not point or may flip on its
side. Keel down before sails are up! Remember that!
If boat has correct winch system keel will remain where you place it without
having to hang onto winch. In effect you must crank keel down.
You should not go sailing the first time with winds over 15 MPH. Once you get
a lil experience you can go out in any kinda weather.
Have fun with your Potter.

When our six y/o saw the boat attached to the car his first question was
to ask if we could go sailing RIGHT NOW!! Hearing that we couldn't today he
said, "Okay, just leave it attached so we can go sailing when we get a
chance." Now that is just what a Dad wants to hear.
A question if I may. There is a hole in the cockpit floor which I
assume is for draining the cockpit, BUT I am not really sure. The exit hole
in the transom is within the area that has been bottom-painted. Won't the
water come in that hole and flood the cockpit? There is another hole in the
transom just below the first hole. That hole, the bottom one, has a plug in
it. What is that for?
Also, while getting to know the keel system I noticed the handle for
raising/lowering rubs against the transom wall, and that the rubber grommet
is cracked. To replace the grommet seems pretty straight forward by just
removing the front nuts. My fear is the whole cable will unravel or the
earth will open up and swallow me.
Also (and this will be the last one), would like to know about lowering
the keel. Since the winch is only a tension type, will the keel go slamming
down when I remove the steel bolts? Do I have to have someone holding the
winch handle?
Many Thanks
