[WWP] P-15 Weather Helm

If you are experiencing severe weather helm, that's a clear sign you
are being overpowered, and the P-15 responds to having the rail
buried by rounding up hard when hit by a severe gust, popping back
upright as the wind is momentarily dumped off the mainsail. All
the previous posts have been right in advocating reefing, then easing
the sails out more, putting more weight on the "high side". Another
remedy that can help, is to trim the centerboard up a bit, from 15
degrees
to thirty degrees of angle on the forward edge of the board. This tunes

out some of the weather helm... and can be hard to make yourself do
if the wind is blowing very hard, and your instinct tells you to get
the board as far down as it will go! P-15's really do like to be
sailed
"flat", and it is astonishing how fast they will sail with the main
reefed,
while only heeling 15 degrees or so in winds above 15 knots.
Cheers,
Bruce
