Alan,

There's no harm in having too much foam, but it uses up extra storage space.

It was thud-simple to figure out how much foam was in the boat.

I measured how much was there when I bought my boat by simply looking for
where there was foam and using a tape measure. (When I bought my boat,
there was a gap between the floor and the fiberglass under the cockpit, so I
could see there was foam inside there. I have since glassed that over to
prevent water from getting inside and growing mold.)

In my boat, there is foam in the aft half of the quarter berths, under the
cockpit, and in the front half of the v-berths.

I called the factory to find out how much they were putting in the new boats
(32 cu.ft.) and ran my own calculations to confirm their number.

Subject: [WWP] P-19 Floatation

So now I am thoroughly confused. Eric feels the P-19's could use a tad
more while Judy took some out. Ted notes there is also floatation under the
aft bunks, presumably as a way of saying there is sufficient floatation.
So the question is how does one determine their particular P-19 has
sufficient floatation? Can I tell by how the boat rides on the water, how
it sails? Judy mentions measuring what is there. Does that mean cutting
holes in the fiberglass to get at it?
Judy, you removed some. What are the consequences of having too much
floatation? Does the boat get too high in the water?
There was a conversation in the recent past about putting gear forward
because the boat will sail better which makes it sound like there is almost
too much floatation forward. Or do I have the wrong idea of what floatation
is all about?
Thanks,
