I just made a dandy little item out of a 2x2 3/8 inch peice of exteior =
grade plywood. I have for some time needed an extension to fill in the =
space over the V-bearth seat by the mast support so I would no longer =
wake up with my shoulder hanging in limbo (I sleep with my head pointing =
aft). So, I took the above 2x2 positioned it so it would have support =
out to nearly the edge of the aft-most part of the V-berth and marked =
where the mast support post was. Next I cut out a "slot" about 4-6'' so =
the plywood would slid forward over the seat area out to where it was =
still supported on the port side,(it lacks some support to starboard =
over the pot-a-potty. After sliding it forward so the mast support post =
was all the way in it's slot I took a pencil and lightly scribed the =
outline of the seat area on the underside and after removing it scribed =
another line about 3" out from the seat trace and the trimmed the wood =
along the outer line. The result is a sort of V shape with the bottom =
of the V cut flat. It can be stored under the V-berth cushions and when =
needed simply slide it out. When slid back under the cushions for =
storage it does not interfer with the port bilge access hatch =
operation.... but as eveything should have two funtions... I then =
traced the end of the "stick" that is used as the support leg of the =
cockpit table--- (you know the thing that holds up the companion way =
hatch cover and makes it into a table) traced it onto the lower end of =
the flat V opposite the slot cutout. after scewing two small peices of =
wood across the stick at the appropriate height I could lay the slot end =
across the stairs -slide the "stick" through it's cut out to act as a =
leg and TA-DA A table between the Quarter-berth seats. With an S hook =
removed from a bungee cord you have a clip to clip it to the stair for =
total stability.
Having read over this I see it's clear as mud. Is there anyway for me =
to post a picture on one of the web pages? This thing is great for =
eating meals-doing chart work- doing any work below decks, with the =
semi-V shape you can even get up from the table without turning it =
over, and it only cost $2.89 cash American. GEEZE, I wish I had one of =
these sooner.
