Judy,

The constant hard bouncing on the hi-way will cause the fiberglass / balsa
cored transom to flex and cracking may develop over time. Also look at the
back side of the transom from inside the quarterberth. Check the mounting
bracket bolts and washers. The soft Balsa core can begin to compress under
the load of the bolts and washers and they may begin to pull through the
transom. If you must carry your motor on the boat while trailering, you
will need to reinforce the inside and outside of the transom with a piece
of aluminum plate to spread the load across a larger area of the transom
surface. This modification of coarse may not completely save your transom
over time. The best way to guarantee the transom won't suffer is by not
carrying your motor on the transom while trailering. The biggest problem
with the potter's transom design is the Balsa Core, It is light weight, but
soft . Also an outboard motor support from the trailer to the bottom of the
outboard should be installed. They are available through most marine
catalogs and stores, sometimes called "Transom Savers". Just a few
thoughts, carrying your motor on the transom while trailering no matter how
configured is always at the owners risk.

Hello All,

I just bought an 1995 P-19 with a factory installed iberglass OB mount
attached to the transom (bolted through the fiberglass and the plywood).
I've
got a 4 HP, 2 cylinder, 2-stroke Evenrude mounted.

What are the pros and cons of trailering with the OB mounted? The previous
owner told us he did it regularly, and the transom and fiberglass bracket
look
okay to me?
