Harry,

Although mostly sailing in " fresh " [ ie...brown river water ] on
occasion I would be in brackish water requiring me to flush my old 2 cycl=
e
Johnson in a plastic trash can of water. Yes....much gummy oil slick on=

the water after only a few minutes. For several years now I have been=

using my 5 HP/4 cycle Honda. Although I usually use a garden hose
connected to the engine to flush out brackish water I have tried the tras=
h
can approach as an experiment. What a difference ! No oily muck
floating on the water. Bottom line IMHO is that electric [ if it giv=
es
you the thrust you need ] or 4 cycle is a way to go. There is nothing i=
n
the Honda manual or the full shop manual about leaving [ or not leaving =
] =

fuel in the system on " long" term storage. For " stopping " it is ju=
st
a " push the button " which grounds out the magneto to kill the spark. =

If I get off the water in time today I will call my friendly local Honda
dealer and ask him about fogging, etc for winter storgage. The manual
does recommend an oil change just before storage as to not let old [
possibly slightly acid ] oil in the crankcase over the winter... and to =
[
of course ] make sure there is no water is left in the system to possibl=
y
freeze. Also...it does recommend squirting some lube oil into the
sparkplug hole and a giving the engine a few cranks to coat the cylinder
walls.

Does anybody have any comments about _4_ cycle engine storage [
ie....no-run for several months ] ?
