I think that one thing we are all overlooking concerning the issue of
shutting off the fuel or not . . . . Todays gasoline is NOWHERE near the
same as gasoline a few years back. Our gestapo EPA has changed the
formulation of gasoline to the point that it is a different animal these
days. The addition of alcohol for example has increased the rate of
evaporation to one of utter absurdity. Around the marina here I have seen
outboard fuel (especially 2 stroke) go bad in a couple weeks if the tank
happens to sit out in the sun.

I recently sold a 15 year old Johnsonrude 6hp that is running better today
than it did when it was new, it ALWAYS had the fuel line detatched from the
TANK when I shut it down for a period of time, that way even the fuel in
the line and bulb was used up. The most important fact in doing that, is
to NOT give it any throttle, let it just idle until it stops. It will lean
out seconds before stopping, but at idle, no damage seems to take place.

Anyway, if you don't feel comfortable shutting off your fuel to stop the
engine, then don't dom it. This is one of those issues that has two sides
to the story, and as usual, never the twain shall meet . . . . . It works
for me.
