I am guessing from your message that your Mk II sail does not have any =
reef grommets at all--neither small grommets across the sail parallel to =
the boom, or big grommets (cringles) right next to the mast and at the =
trailing edge (leach) of the sail. When one reef (one line of grommets) =
is put into a Mk II sail, the usual height above the boom for that reef is =
43 inches. Normally only one line of reef grommets is put in a Potter 15 =
sail (I am also assuming that your boat is a P-15, since you said "Mk II =
sail"). I have a second row of reef grommets in my Mk II sail, but I =
can't remember at this point how high I had the second row put in.

I had a sail loft (Sailrite, in Columbia City, Indiana) install two rows =
of reef grommets in my sail rather than doing it myself because their =
charge was $80 or so, and I decided that I would rather pay them than to =
do it myself. Particularly if you don't have a sewing machine to do the =
work with, and a couple of sizes of grommet tools (and I don't) the job is =
very labor intensive. Sailrite did a very good job for me.

You will also have to install hardware on your gooseneck and boom in order =
to use the reef once it is in the sail. International Marine sells a =
reefing hook that can be substituted for a clevis pin in the gooseneck; =
you will also need an eyestrap, a small turnng block, a small horn cleat, =
and about eleven feet of 1/4 " dacron braid.

Greetngs,

I would really like to have some reef points in my MKII sail. I am
considering adding them myself. Has anyone done this ? Anything I should
be aware of? Also, I was hoping to make the reef points quite a ways up
for a substantial reef. Comments?

Thanks.
