A friend of mine, Larry Appelbaum of larry@webhappy.com , built a =
Nancy's China. He did a really beautiful job--it has a white hull with =
everything above the gunnels bright finished. He made it gaff rigged, and =
it has a tanbark sail. It sails well, and with the gaff sail and tanbark =
color it is very distinctive. He built it in two years and he says that =
it cost him $6000 to build. =20

The NC is one foot longer than a P-15 (fifteen REAL feet!) and weighs a =
couple of hundred pounds more than the P-15 because it is ballasted. I =
have three criticisms of the NC--it does not have a self bailing cockpit, =
it has almost no built-in storage, and the cabin does not have sitting =
headroom like a P-15. It has "slouching" headroom, but not sitting =
headroom.

I think that you could design and build a cockpit liner into the NC to =
give it a self bailing cockpit, but it would make the cockpit smaller and =
would probably increase the complexity of building the boat by more than a =
little. If the boat DID have a cockpit liner, part of the space under it =
could be used as storage. =20

Samual Devlin is one of the more experienced designers of plywood-epoxy =
boats in this country. I have read that his designs are very strong and =
very well thought of.

Samual Devlin has a very similar design called "Nancy's China," at:
