Rich,

I powered my P-15 with an old 3 hp Evinrude with a long shaft and a geared-
down lower unit (called a 'yacht-twin') and was able to make headway against
20+ mph winds off of Long Beach, Calif. However my friend Alan Motter had a
3.5 hp Nissan and it outperformed the old Evinrude many times in fuel
efficiency and 'punch'. If I were to be going into trade winds in the open
ocean I would go for the Nissan 3.5 or equivalent. Incidently the 3.5 and 2.5
are the same engine with different carburation.
