Herb Stewart produced the HMS 18's from 1970 to early 1975. As far as I
know less than 70 of these boats were built. Joe Edwards bought the company in
1978 and got out the old molds and went into production in 1981 othe Potter
19's.According to Joe, HMS Marine owned the international rights to the name
West Wight Potter. This was purchased from Stanley Smith in 1969. He figured
the fame of the little Potter would help the sales of the bigger version, he
was right. The first brochures of the West Wight Potter 19 showed photo's of
the HMS 18, he hadn't built one yet. The wierd thing is that the first Potter
19's I saw were around hull # 200. Is there anyone out there that has a HMS 18
over hull # 70 or a P. 19 owner with a hull # under 200????? I would really
like to know this!
