Before you buy what could be duplicate insurance, check your homeowners
policy. Many cover liability, property damage and medical up to policy
limits for boats like ours. Mine, (The Hartford) covers sailing vessels,
with or without auxiliary power, that are less than 26 feet overall in
length. (It also covers me on longer sailing vessels not owned by or
rented to me.)

Homeowner policys may also cover the boat itself (like comprehensive
coverage) under certain conditions.

All disclaimers apply...but it might pay you to check before giving those
insurance companies any more than you have to for the coverage you want.
Even if your policy as written doesn't provide what you want...you might
want to discuss a possible rider to it (as opposed to a separate policy)
with your agent.
