Top 15 Reads (all true stories):

15: SHRIMPY- Shane Acton- 1981. The amazing true story of an English
non-sailor who circumnavigated in a wooden 18 footer much like the P-19.

14. ALONE AROUND THE WORLD- Naomi James 1979. Inspiring story of woman
who soloed the world despite little sail training.

13. ALONE AT SEA- Dr. Hannes Lindemann- 1957. Sailed/paddled 17 foot
kayak across the Atlantic. Amazing.

12. HALF SAFE- Ben Carlin-1955. Beleive it or not, he drove a JEEP
across the Atlantic.

11. KON-TIKI- Thor Heyerdahl- 1950. A voyage in a balsa raft across the
Pacific proved nothing scientifically, but is a testament to the bravery
of its crew.

10. DESPERATE VOYAGE- John Caldwell- 1949. Aussie desperate to return
home to his bride after the war can't find transport. So he teaches
himself to sail on this voyage from South America to OZ.

9. SURVIVE THE SAVAGE SEA- Dougal Robertson- 1973. One of the best
survival tales by the father of the family that pulled it off. An epic.

8. BRITANNIA: ROWING ALONE ACROSS THE ATLANTIC- John Fairfax- 1971.
First guy to do it solo told in go-go 60s style.

7. THE LONG WAY- Bernard Moitessier- 1971. Not for all tastes, but the
beginning of eco-style nautical writing.

6. THE LONELY SEA AND SKY- Francis Chichester- 1964. Much better than
his other GYPSY MOTH book. He was truly a remarkable man.

5. TINKERBELLE- Robert Manry- 1966. Newspaper worker sails the Atlantic
in 14 dingy. Beloved of all small-boat sailors.

4. ESCAPE TO THE SEA- Fred Rebell- 1939. Broken-hearted, unemployed, he
makes his own maps, sextant, and passport, then sails his leaky dingy
from Australia to Los Angeles.

3. THE VENTURESOME VOYAGES OF CAPTAIN VOSS- John Voss- 1913. He sailed a
50 year old Indian dug-out canoe around the world- really! Boat is
preserved in Victoria, Vancouver.

2. THE SAGA OF CIMBA- Richard Maury- 1939. One of the most beautifully
written nautical books ever. Concerns voyage from east coast to South
Seas before shipwreck ends it all. Wonderful classic.

1. SAILING ALONE AROUND THE WORLD- Joshua Slocum-1900. A great writer
who happened to be a find sailor, too. The greatest of 'em all!

Enjoy.
