I<ve dealt with it both ways and prefer the adjustable topping lift. It's
easier to deal with and safer.When reefing under sail the topping lift
keeps the boom from lowering into the cockpit where it is in the way and
at best an obstacle. Also ocasionally its handy to adjust the height of
the boom for additional clearrance. Also you can raise and lower the sail
without having to set the boom on the pendant or release it from the
pendant which can be tricky if your not headed directly into the wind.
Rigging is easy, get a copy of the rigging system in the owners manual from
