Eureka!!!

This year, I'm going to take out all the foam and replace it with bags of
Doritos! 'Bout the same cost per cubic foot as 'noodles' and edible! ;-}

>The foam worked as =
>advertised, and damage was limited to loss of a battery (wet cell type) =
>and the need to fresh water wash a lot of the stuff that accumulates in =
>underseat storage. By the way - granola bars in mylar wrappers survived =
>just fine, as did doritos.

Actually, this cold and dark is getting pretty boring up here in
rainy/windy Washington State. 'Windsong' is toughing it out under her tarp
in the driveway. Climbed aboard yesterday to check for any dampness and was
delighted to find none. I keep a 60 watt light on in there which seems to
help.

Santa brought a nice Potter gift this year: what I at first took to be
about the right size and shape of present to be a surf board, actually
turned out to be A NEW RUDDER!!! Oh happy day! My old (no doubt original -
vintage 1986) kickup was getting pretty rotten in places. The new one is
fixed (my personal preferrence for where we sail). Am debating about
copying a nifty adjustable installation that Chuck in Oregon did on his P19
in which the solid rudder slides up and down in a welded metal 'jacket'
with 3 different depths achievable with a push-pin 'keeper' at each depth.
This coupled with Chucks idea of mounting a V-shaped mast crutch on the top
of the rudder has me thinking this mightbe just what I want. No more need
to have a separate crutch.

List of 'must do' items before spring include a new battery, fixing the
mast wiring connector I tore off during the last sail of autumn, rudder
installation, and....well, actually, I can sail without doing ANY of that
stuff if the fancy strikes. Sure nice to have a boat that I can spend more
time sailing on than tinkering with!

Fair winds to all,

Tom and Valerie
