Is anybody out there pulling a P19 with a recent Subaru Outback. I
have a '97 with a 2.5L and wonder what experience people have had. The
Outback is rated to 2000 pounds which is probably damm close to the
weight of a fully set up '19.

I have had several Subarus in the past and have been very happy with
them. A turkey ran a red light at 50MPH and broadsided me a few years
age I walked out of the hospital a couple of hours later with a bunch of
stitches and a resolve to continue my church going -- so I really
respect the structural integrity of the car -- which was totaled. I
went out an bought the exact same car the following week....

The brakes seem to be oversized with dual cylinders and really big pads
in the front. I think the car has the weight for towing.

Of course the manual recommends trailers brakes for anything over 1000
pounds, but I think that originates more in their legal department than
anywhere else. I suspect that the trailer brake requirement is in there
to eliminate the jack knifing problems of panic stops. Something that
should be part of driver education for hauling trailers anyway.

I will probably be keeping my boat on a hook in the spring so this more
of a winter academic musing than anything else. And the ice keeps
getting thicker and thicker out there.....
