Tom, I had a problem, while letting the center board down I must have unwound
the cable too much and the cable coil expanded on the sheave and overlapped
the sheave and got caught into the gear system. In bringing up the centerboard
I felt the cable jamming but not knowing what was actually happening I applied
too much pressure and frayed the cable in a few places. I needed to put my
hands in the lazarette to wrap the cable back on the sheave. I was praying
that the cable would hold and it did. I don't know how I would have gotten it
up if it broke.
I have replaced the cable and had to take out the winch system. It was a job.
Next time I will be more careful and make sure the cable stays taught.
