I took a long lunch today and drove to Oakland to pick up my centerboard
from the galvanizer. Total charge was $48.74 and they kept it a week,
waiting for enough "small" stuff to accumulate to run as a batch.

I am about 90% satisfied with the way it turned out. It looks bright and
gorgeous at first glance, but there are several small spots where the
zinc didn't adhere. It looks like surface preparation for galvanizing is
critical because the bad spots are in the areas that were tough or
impossible to access for removal of rust and scale - inside the slot and
the area between the "arm" and the plate adjacent to the welds.

I'll have to clean those areas up as best I can by hand with files and
sandpaper and then paint on some "cold galvanize" before putting it back
in the boat.

Time will tell how it holds up, and it's certainly a big improvement
when compared to the rusty mess I pulled out of the boat 10 days ago!
