The Montgomery 17 was one of the best compact cruisers ever built. It looks
good and sails well. As much as I like the Montgomery, given the two boats I'd
take the Potter 19. The Potter has much more room inside. The Potter is truly
beachable, this is a very desireable feature on a trailerable boat. The
Montgomery has a shoal draft keel with a centerboard, so it sits high on the
trailer. This makes it harder to launch than the Potter. Also under sail the
Montgomery tends to heel more than the Potter under sail. As I said, I really
like tha Montgomery. But I love the Potter!
