I wouldn't rush out and get winches, lets put it that way. Thought I have
winches, I've pretty much always been able to just pull on the sheets with
brute force. Now, If you're flying the genoa in highish winds (and you'll
need a lot of rail meat to keep her on her feet in such situations) then the
loads are probably high enough to use winches. YMMV. I use the winches once
in a blue moon.

Then again, I only got my genoa at the end of last sailing season and only
used it a half dozen times. Maybe I'll change my mind in the future. I
expect to use the genoa as my primary headsail next season.
