Hi John,

Wow! Sound's great! A few comments, not really in order.

I towed my P15 through mountains of Vermont in summer and mountains of MA
and CT in Winter with a 1.8 liter 4 cylinder Acura Intregra (read
"fancy/sporty civic". No problems there.

About sleeping arrangements. If you are the avid camper, you already have a
tent. Some of the places you mentioned have water access only tent camping
sites. My two person Eureka Timberline is not huge, but feels like a lot
more space than the P15 and takes up very little room. I always take the
tent along when I boat camp. Gives you that added flexibility.

I did The 1000 Islands in September and it was *great*. But I hear it does
get crowded in summer. But it is a big place and there are other areas
right next to it that are less crowded. Bay of Chamont with Sacketts Harbor
in NY. Sailing out of Kingston in Ont (really 1000 Islands) and Jacque
Cartier Park farther up the St. Lawrence.

If you are going from 1000 Islands to Lake Champlian swing through Old
Forge NY. It is in the heart of the Adirondacks but not a towing problem.
There is something called "fulton chain of lakes" that extend for about 9
miles. Great wind (shifty though) and great scenery. Hiking too and fun
spots like Lake Placid close by. You can tie up at a lakeside park
overnight for free.

About Nantucket, if you shout loud enough on this list I am sure you can
start a fleet for the journey. So between your growing experience and a
couple of boats for company it may be more attractive to you.

About Maps. For The 1000 Islands you *need* a map/chart. I have both the
NOAA chart and a "fishfinder" folding map. Both are waterproof. But besides
fishing tips the actual map parts are identical. Not sure how up to date
either is but at $4.95 you can replace them easy enough. Very handy in the
cockpit.

I have a spiral chart book for the Hudson from Monteal to NYC, inc;luding
Lake Champlain. All sorts of info about tides, currents, marinas and also
charts. The charts have "not for navigation use" stamped all over them but
I think that is for the Exon Valdez's of the world. For a P15 I would feel
very comfortable using them. I usually just allow for less depth then they
show.

Feel free to send questions, and let me know when you are in The 1000
Island area. It is only 3 miles away and I plan on being there a few times
this summer.

Regards,

John Haley
