Since I'm currently snowed in (in Minnesota) I'll miss your trip, but as an
owner of a P19 that finds the muddy bottom far too often...

No need to drop sail, just crank up the daggerboard, she'll slip sideways a
few feet, then catch the wind and off you go. As far as top heavy with the
dagger board up, the depends on how much wind your in. I have been under
full sail (in about 10 knots of wind) and sailing in 18 inches of water.
(that leaves about 6" of daggerboard exposed) I was winding my way through
a channel on a dare at the time. You should have seen the people (kids and
adults) who where wading and staring at our Panacea, well loaded with
myself, the first-and-only-mate, and 4 crew members hanging of various
railings and stays...
