David Kautz wrote of considering a fixed lenght topping lift.

I had a fixed length topping lift on a previous boat (came on it). When I
got my new potter it was rigged for an adjustable topping lift. I used this
a while but soon decided that I liked the fixed length a lot better. I just
tied line off to the top of the cheek block (no real weight on it anyway).
Now I've got the cheek block free if I ever want to run something else up
the mast. Meant one less line to stow/rig too.
