If it is getting hard to crank up your keel, it is time to pull and inspect
your winch. Mine gave out so I pulled it and found that (because it wasn't
installed as per manufacturers instructions) it had warped and the cable was
being frayed by the side of the drum. Thank goodness the cable let go when
the keel was only about four inches above the trunk! I told the factory
about the mounting problem and they assured me that they would start
installing the needed backing plate.
