John,

I sail primarily on Lake Tahoe, a high altitude alpine lake with unpredictable
winds and an occasional unexpected thunder squall. I had been caught a couple
of times years ago and wish I had a storm anchor. I now keep one on board,
it's been there about three years and never taken out of it's bag. That's a
good thing. I imagine that I've never had to use it because I have become
more familiar with weather patterns and get my boat off the lake when I see
threatening weather. I still think it is an important part of safety gear.
It is stashed below along with the manual bilge pump which also has never been
used.
