Send us pics when you're done with it!

I'm on my second(!) piece of mahogany ply. I got this one cut correctly
(yeah, asymmetrically!) and i modified it a bit to better fit the goofy
curve in the sliding hatch. I still need to finish it. On some scrap I'm
experimenting with covering the edges and even some flat surfaces with
Gluvit epoxy. When this epoxy finally cures hard I'll coat it with varnish
and see how the combination is to work with. While I too detest varnishing,
I so love the look of well-varnished wood I'm willing to keep doing it :) I

Yo! dude:

Instead of using that crummy varnish that peels and dies in less than one
season in the sun and rain... Try using automotive clear acrylic paint over
epoxy. Apply 2 or 3 coats of epoxy resin to hatch. Specially coat the edges.
Let epoxy dry for 1 week in sun, then spray paint one coat of acrylic on it.
Wait!!! Spray second coat next day. Wait!! Spray third coat on third day.
Don't overspray so it does not drip... The acrylic coat should be good for 4
- 5 years in direct sunlight. Acrylic clear coat will keep epoxy from
deteriorating. The varnish craps out in one year or less.
