I used to worry about this a lot more than is apparently necessary. I
leave my anchor rigged and halyards attached at all times. There're
lots of external fittings & cables & wires & the like that are hanging
around vulnerable to mischief, but in 12 years & 25000+ (?) miles,
I've never had any trouble.

Common sense is, of course, never wasted. Be wary of the tenderloin
districts of big cities, but if you must go pub crawling there, look
for commercial parking lots or make friends with and bribe a local or
two.

Chain/lock your spare tire to the trailer. Use a tongue lock and/or
chain a wheel to prevent total disappearance if you leave the trailer
unattached and unattended. Immobilizing a wheel seems best, as that
discourages the fun some miscreant might have by removing your chocks
(always carry a bunch) and watching the rig roll away.

Transient areas seem the safest: motel lots, RV/campgrounds, mall
parking lots (!), marinas (certainly), etc.

Truth be known, anymore I rarely leave the boat anywhere except in the
water or someone's driveway. Towing with a full size van, I find it no
hassle to take the rig wherever I go. Takes two parking spaces, but
that usually only creates a longer walk through a parking lot; good
for the body.
