I rest it on the pins, with a little tension on the winch cable to share the
load, but my trailer has no such bunk. I've thought of adding a removable
one as an added safety factor.

If you use the pins (mine are bolts) be sure to secure them with nylocks or
hitch pins or something. I've had them wiggle out while trailering!
