I think Lake Tahoe Geoff had to change his outboard mount too when he fitted
his
Honda - maybe he can provide some advice?

That is correct. If you put a Honda four stroke on a P-15 you will have to
modify the mount. You can extend the stock mount about an inch or replace it
with a lift mount. For the hassle of changing the existing mount, it is
almost as easy to replace it with the lift mount. There are other advantages
of the lift mount: You can set it deeper when the water's choppy, you can
raise it to fuel easier and you can lower it to fuel when the boat's on the
trailer easier.

I found the best price for the lift mount to be from International Marine. I
had a local marina do the work. The work cost about $100. They put in an
inspection port on the inside of the transom and reinforced the transom. It
was worth the bucks to have somebody else deal with the tight space on the
interior of the transom area.

PS. We have something in common. Spell check says that Kautz should be Klutz
and Geoff should be Goof. Very interesting.
