Get some white nylon braid parachute cord. Find something at the top of
the mast to tie it to. Tie the other end to the end of the boom, using
an adjustable knot. You'll no doubt get other suggestions involving
blocks, cleats, etc., but this is the easiest, and it works just fine
for a small boat like the Potter.

Yes, you'll need tracks for a genoa.
