In reference to choosing between sailing on Monterey VS SF Bay. If I had a choice ( I sailed Monterey Bay for 20 years and numerous sails on SF Bay) hands down I'd choose SF Bay. Reason: From Monterey you basically have 2 choices on where to go. Sail 22 miles to Santa Cruz or 15 miles to Moss Landing. ALL on open ocean! Check out a map and see the exposure to the open ocean of Monterey Bay. Totally exposed to ocean weather and westerly swells, not to mention fog (and cold!, even in summer.)
SF Bay however has many places to sail to, restaurants to choose from and soon you can even take in a ball game at the new Pac Bell Park which will be home to the SF Giants. No ocean swell, land in sight all the time, especially when the fog rolls in ( which it will) AND no way you can get lost!.
There are so many reasons to choose SF over Monterey, I'd be glad to answer any questions. I used to spend every one of my summer vacations slogging up the coast (against the prevailing winds) to reach the SF Bay area and Sacramento Delta Area just to get some warm weather sailing!.. Oh, I could go on.

Anyway, Regards
