MEMO to Ray Huard, San Diego (?) Union-Tribune

Now hear this! "U.S. Coast Guard _barge_ Eagle"?! [Expletive deleted.]
Make that "bark," sonny -- or "barque," if stick your little finger
out when you drink tea* -- but _don't_ call USCGC Eagle a "barge." Not
in front of the Old Man, anyway. And, whatever, you do, don't mention
that she was originally christened the Horst Wessel. We've got enough
trouble in Europe already.

Still, things could be worse. If she had a fourth mast, she'd be a
jackass-bark.

* The Coast Guard, in fact, calls her a "barque." I don't know how
they drink their tea.
