I do not have to remove the gooseneck. I used to have a
Snark Wildflower
and at the aft end of the boom there was an aluminium piece
with a pad eye on the top for the sail outhaul and one on
the bottom for the main sheet. When I got the Potter there
was just a big hole at the end and as many have noticed
there was no way to get the main to flatten. I was lucky
enough to find the same fitting at a local shipshandler: it
fitted tight in the boom and only protrudes an inch or so.
Another advantage is that when I get hit by the boom it
doesn't hurt as much ;-)
It is probably a part for an Optimist or other sailing
