I went out for a sail today, and after all of the talk about cotter pins
and rings I decided to give everything a good once-over and tape all of
my rings before heading out. I was horrified to find that a ring on one
of my shroud turnbuckles was missing! I have no idea how long it has
been gone. The pin was still securely in place, due to the tension of
the shroud, thank goodness, and I easily popped in a new pin, this time
taping it afterward. I'm using white elecrician's tape, as someone
suggested earlier. It seemed to work well, so far. I certainly have
learned my lesson about careful inspection and taking a few extra
precautionary steps.
