Potter'ers,
ln a sort of reply to Bernie's problem..
l too Prozac.. my P-19.. out for her first wind test westerday..
Full mail, Jib and noreefs set. Had my wife.. who doesnt sail ,my 7 year ol,
4 year old and my 2 year old on the boat. We were going to have some fun! Not
let it also be said, that l have not had time to correct the rake problem
with my mast or fix my "lee helm" problem yet.
With that said, we cast off and headed out of the protected cove in a nice
broad reach with 8 mph wind from the North. Just as we cleared the cove.. l
noticed several J-24's And Beneteau 33's eating up the lake. Wow, this would
be great, right? NO!!
Prozac was hit with a gust near 20 mph, she healed heavily throwing my kids
to the cabin and cockpit floor and nearly burying the starboard toe rail.
Having the bejesus scared out of me.. l jibed.. and headed back into the
cove. Dropped the jib. and practiced handling a boat with sever lee helm.
The problem isnt really with the boat so much, as it is with my unfamiliarity
with her limitations and my knowing how far she can go. And ,more
inportantly, how far l can go.
So my advice to Bernie would be... Skipper, know thyself.. thaen know thy
boat.
