J.J., I have a British Seagull Featherlight Forty Plus which I had stored in
Florida with my 31' C&C and dinghy. I bought new gas last year (June 1998) and
took the boat out for a night in the Gulf. The motor did fine. Two days later
we had a huge rain and the motor was still mounted on the backside of my dinghy.
I tried in vain to start the engine and finally gave in and put it away (in a
rush). Two weeks ago, I went to Florida and retrieved the engine and brought it
home to Texas for use with my C Type Potter 14. I removed the plug and cleaned
it. Stuck the foot in a barrel of water... adjusted the choke and pulled the
starter cord. The engine fired off perfectly on the third pull and ran like a
sewing machine. I love that engine! It is the second Seagull I've owned (the
first was a Century model). I've heard a lot of bad comments made about them,
but they've always been reliable for me.
