I was only half joking. Even on a larger boat I would like some kind of
unstayed, jibless rig. Maybe a modern catboat with wishbone, if not lateen
(or HSS). I saw someone tacking up the Oakland Estuary in such a boat one
day, laid back, singlehanded, using only the tiller and much less effort
than our little Potter sloops required, and his boat must have been at
least 30 ft.

I'll withhold judgment on the HSS until I can see one in action. I find it
hard to visualize. But your buddy, Brett, must be convinced.
