Grover:

You might want to get some more opinions on this. I don't have a P19 so
can't speak from experience, but the usual recommendation (and the
manufacturer's) for a P19 outboard has been in the 5 hp range. I don't know
anyone using anything as small as a 2 hp on a P19, but the Honda 2
apparently works great on the P15. I'm using either a 3 hp Seagull or a
1-kw electric on my P14. The 3 hp is a perfect match for the P14 so far as
power is concerned. The 70-lbf-thrust electric has been okay but probably
would not be adequate in heavy winds, chop, or current.

Your 8 hp is larger than usual on a P19.

You may be able to strengthen your transom to allow leaving a 4 or 5 hp
mounted so you wouldn't have to take it on and off, but there are
conflicting opinions about the wisdom of trailering with the motor mounted.

Has anyone here used a 2 hp or 3 hp on a P19?
