Today I was able to grab a few hours on the lake with my new bimini setup. I
modified Jim Harrison's design as my boat doesn't have cockpit rails, but the
simplistic layout works like a charm. The wind cooperated with my test,
giving me all variations from dead calm to puffs that had the rail in the
water. Four observations of note:

1. It takes all of about 8 seconds to raise or lower the unit once the poles
are attached, and you can sail very nicely with it in either the up or down
position.

2. It's very easy to peak around the side to check on the sail, but it's not
as important as I thought, I adjusted the angle of the boom in relation to
the telltales on the sidestays and found I can trust my judgment in most
cases.

3. Even in the worst puff, the bimini did not get in the way, it has a slight
tendency to lift slightly on the windward side, but not to the point where I
was concerned.

4. It works, I was VERY comfortable, and did not see the need to wear a hat
on a sunny day in the mid 90's. My hats off to you Jim on your design.
