Greetings all-
I'd like to thank all of you who wrote to me about fixing the cockpit
drain on #567. While I didn't follow any specific advice, I can say that
I was emboldened to be creative by all of your suggestions. Hardware
store fittings, a little hole-enlarging here and there, and some
perseverance, and now my boat drains like she ought to.
Those of you who aren't familiar with the Mk I cockpit configuration may
not understand what the fuss was about. The main problem was access to
the spots where the fittings go through cockpit and through the transom.
You have to assemble the string of fittings and hose, and then find a way
to install it. I ended up sliding the whole Mary Ann down a long,
flexible rod to the transom, grasping the through-fitting with needlenose
pliers, and cinching a backing-nut on the threads once I got them out the
hole. By comparison, the cockpit through-fitting was a piece of cake.
Of course, there are more details that when into this repair than space
here would permit reporting, and some blue language crossed my lips. All
in all, though, it was not the insurmountable task that it appeared to
be.
Thanks again. You folks are great!
