When I raise the mast by myself, I have to climb back to the cockpit and
lift the mast so the shroud attachment hardware will clear the crutch.
It is a bit of a pain, but it's the only way to go with the standard
factory system. I like Jerry's idea of putting a roller in the crutch.

The newer masts balance right at the position where you need to pin it to
the step plate, so you do not need more than light pressure on it at that
point.
