I agree with Geoff, I could take my P-15, the Hunky Dory, anywhere backwards
by spinning my old Evinrude yachtwin 3 hp. The only thing about gears that is
better is that it is good to have neutral sometimes. I got around this by
having the motor well tuned so that a very slow idle was a 'virtual neutral',
and the fact that the engine was reliable enough that I could start it in a
hurry.
