Chris...I had to smile when I read your message regarding what "tips" more
seasoned Potterers have regading rigging their boat. I remember last
September when my P-19 was delivered and how dimayed I was when there was
nothing more than the little blue pee-chee type folder with the most modest
of instructions on rigging. Moon Shadow is our first sailboat so we knew
just a wee bit more than nothing. I have since determined that there is an
unstated hazing aspect to sailing that goes on that everyone is subject to.
Just getting the mast rigged for the first time is a memory we still talk
about. One year later and the help of others we feel we mostly have our boat
rigged correctly but it sure was helped along by this list serve.

I suggested to IM after we went through the frustration of figuring things
out mostly on our own that a video would be nice along with the check list
you suggested. But I have come to realize that these would be "cheating" you
and me out of the first time experience of figuring things out on your own.
Sunday we put our boat in the water for the winter down at a lake near the
Oregon coast and I will remember to put the wind vane on before putting up
the mast...I missed on that one when we moved her to Fern Ridge Lake for the
Spring through Fall and I got a chance to learn to sail without the wind
vane. Hopefully I won't forget that again.

Good luck with your new boat. We love ours.
